Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 and Svartpilen 401 production to be shifted from Austria to Bajaj’s Chakan facility in Pune.
KTM will move the production base of the Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 and Svartpilen 401 motorcycles from Austria to Bajaj Auto’s manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune. The Chakan plant will be the only factory to produce the motorcycles to the entire world.
Production of the Husqvarna Vitpilen and Svartpilen 401 is expected to commence by late 2018 or early 2019 and these bikes will be rolled out globally. The bikes have been confirmed for the Indian market as well and will be positioned above the KTM brand. In terms of pricing, expect the Husqvarna bikes to command a premium over the KTM Duke 390.
Both the Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 and Svartpilen 401 draw power from a 373.3cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled and fuel injected engine that produces 43.5 HP of power and 37 Nm of torque. The motor comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox with anti-hopping slipper clutch. Both the bikes come with modern features like LED headlamp, all-digital instrument cluster, inverted forks and dual-channel ABS.
The Husqvarna Vitpilen and Svartpilen 401 will become the 9th and 10th models respectively to be manufactured in India under the Bajaj-KTM partnership after the KTM Duke (125, 200, 250 and 390) and the RC (125, 200, 250 and 390). Later this year, Bajaj will add one more KTM model (390 Adventure) to the production line. Global sales of KTM jumped 17% to 2,38,408 last year as against 2,03,767 units sold in 2016.
