Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is being considered for India. The hybrid SUV will be brought to India as a CBU and is expected to be priced over Rs. 35 lakhs (ex-showroom).

The Outlander PHEV’s hybrid powertrain uses a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 118 HP of power and 186 Nm of torque. The motor works in tandem with two electric motors, one mounted above the front axle and one over the rear with a power output of 82 HP each. Therefore, the combined power output is 203 HP which is distributed to all the four wheels. There is a 12 kW lithium-ion battery that provides power to the electric motors which can be charged in 6.5 hrs. Via fast charging, the battery is able to charge itself up to 80% in just 30 mins.

The Outlander PHEV gets three driving modes – an all-electric mode, a mode where the petrol engine charges the depleting battery and finally a mode where the petrol engine only takes charge with the electric motor providing assistance. The Japanese automaker claims that the range in the pure EV mode is up to 50 kms and in the same mode, the SUV can hit a top speed of up to 120 km/hr.

In terms of styling, apart from the PHEV badging with blue highlights, there isn’t much to differentiate between the standard Outlander and the PHEV version. Coming to the interior, the Outlander PHEV is a 5-seater SUV while the regular Outlander is a 7-seater. Compared to the regular version, the PHEV variant is around 260 kgs heavier, tipping the scales at 1860 kgs. The fuel tank capacity has also been reduced to 45-litres from 60-litres. In terms of features, the Outlander PHEV is loaded with the same amount of features as the standard Outlander.
