2018 Maruti Wagon R India launch scheduled to happen by this festive season, to get optional AMT gearbox.
Various spy shots of the 2018 Maruti Wagon R have emerged before and yet again there is one more spy image of the hatchback doing rounds on the internet. Codenamed as ‘YCA’, the new Wagon R is expected to be launched in India by Diwali this year. According to sources, Maruti is planning to sell around 18,000 units of the new Wagon R a month. For your information, the carmaker sold 1,68,644 units of the vehicle in FY 2017-18 and that’s about 14,000-odd units a month.
The latest spy shot of the 2018 Maruti Wagon R reveals the car’s boxy or tall-boy design language that is carried over from the current model. It is, however, heavily camouflaged thus revealing minute details. The vehicle continues to feature the side indicators on the front fender but news is that the new Wagon R will not be underpinning the HEARTECT platform for obvious cost reasons. The hatchback will continue to be powered by the same 1.0-litre K10B petrol engine which produces 67 HP of power and 90 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard and an optional AMT gearbox.
The third-generation Wagon R is expected to be priced at a slight premium over the current model and will rival the Tata Tiago and Hyundai’s upcoming small car (Santro).
