Suzuki Gixxer ABS was showcased by the company today at Buddh International Circuit, Greater Noida.
Last month, 2018 versions of the Suzuki Gixxer and Gixxer SF were launched in India with revised graphics and a new colour scheme. The Japanese automaker had introduced ABS to the Gixxer SF range way back in August 2017 and it was expected that the life-saving equipment would make its way to the street-fighter sibling sooner or later. Today, the 2018 Suzuki Gixxer ABS was showcased at a ride event at BIC, Greater Noida. It is expected that Suzuki will lifts the curtains off the bike’s prices by launching it in the near future.
Suzuki Gixxer has been a fairly successful model for the company ever since its launch in 2014. The sportiness, practicality and affordability on offer makes it an attractive package for Indian customers. Powering the Gixxer is a 155cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that churns out 14.8 PS of power at 8000 RPM and 14 Nm of torque at 6000 RPM. Mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, the motor will be fed by a carburettor. Feature list is going to remain unchanged with some of the highlights being an all-digital instrument console, LED tail lamp and twin-port exhaust.
Save for ABS sticker on the front fender, there will be no visible changes to the motorcycle. Single-channel ABS unit on the Gixxer SF is available at a premium of Rs. 6349/- and Rs. 7274/- in the carburetted and fuel-injected avatars respectively. Unlike the Gixxer SF, the Gixxer comes with a rear drum brake and is available with an optional rear disc brake. It is highly likely that ABS will be exclusive to the rear disc variant only, which is currently priced at Rs. 82,192/- (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The Gixxer competes with the likes of the Pulsar NS 160, Honda CB Hornet 160R and Yamaha FZ.
