The 25 top selling cars list in March 2018 sees Maruti Alto regaining the coveted number 1 spot.
March 2018, the last month of the FY2017-18 sees a marginal jump in sales as compared to February 2018. Maruti Alto regains its number 1 spot while the Tata Tiago outsells Maruti Celerio and the Honda City outsells the Maruti Ciaz and Hyundai Verna. While the table above is self-explanatory, let us take you through the other cars that couldn’t make it to the top selling list.
Skoda still remains the underdog in the Indian passenger car market with total sales of just 1484 units. The Rapid, Kodiaq and Octavia sold 913, 163 and 253 numbers respectively in the month of March. Next up is FCA with total sales of 2215 units, of which 2172 units are being contributed by the Jeep Compass. The Punto and Linea sell a meagre 34 and 9 units respectively and it’s high time that FCA thinks about an update to the duo. German automaker Volkswagen sold a total of 3715 units in March. While the Polo, Vento and Ameo sold 2053, 740 and 716 numbers respectively, premium cars like the Tiguan and Passat managed to register sales of 133 and 72 units respectively.
The redi-GO, GO and GO+ contribute 2688, 596 and 663 units respectively to Nissan’s overall sales of 4921 units while their very own Micra sold 620 units, Sunny sold 208 units and the Terrano sold 146 units in March 2018. Renault registered total sales of 7683 units with Kwid contributing approximately 76 percent to the total sales. While the Captur’s sales are yet to pick up pace in the Indian market, the Lodgy sold 202 units and the Duster managed to find 1326 homes.
American carmaker Ford sold 1030 units of the Figo, 2145 units of the Aspire and 492 units of the Endeavour. The Mustang, on the other hand, sold 5 units in the month of March 2018. Toyota’s Innova continues to bring in the volumes for the Japanese giant while the Liva, Etios, Corolla, Fortuner and Camry saw sales of 1267, 1966, 342, 1925 and 60 units respectively. Honda’s Brio, Jazz and Amaze saw sales of 261, 2473 and 716 units respectively while the BR-V found 992 homes last month.
Tata has been steadily increasing its passenger car sales. The homegrown automaker sold a total of 20,266 units in March 2018 with major contributions coming from the Tiago, Nexon, Tigor and the Zest. While the Tigor and Zest sold 2076 and 1604 units respectively, the Bolt, Safari Storme and the Hexa managed to find 421, 1135 and 1404 homes. The Scorpio and Bolero continue to rake in the volumes for Mahindra. Besides that, the Indian carmaker also sold 3107 units of the KUV100, 811 units of the Xylo, 3378 units of the TUV300 and 1567 units of the XUV500.
Hyundai remains the second in the Indian market when it comes to sales. The Korean carmaker sold a total of 48,009 units in March 2018 while the number one player Maruti Suzuki sold three times the volumes. Apart from the Ignis, S-Cross and the Gypsy, all other Maruti cars can be seen on the list above.
