The 2018 TVS Apache 160 4V has been launched in India with prices starting from Rs. 81,490/- (ex-showroom, Delhi). The 2018 Apache 160 comes underpinned by a new platform and also gets a new engine. The motorcycle is available across all TVS dealerships in India and bookings for the same have also commenced.
The 2018 Apache 160 draws design inspirations from its elder sibling, the Apache 200 and looks much like the latter with subtle visual distinctions like the chequered flag on the fuel-tank, single-piece seat design, silver-finished centre panel and a single piece handlebar. The headlight, tail-light, turn indicators, fuel-tank, the instrument cluster and even the ‘shotgun’ double barrel exhaust are borrowed from the Apache 200. Much like the Apache 200, the Apache 160 is available in multiple variants (3 variants to be precise). The base trim comes powered by a carburetted engine and gets a rear drum brake, the mid-variant gets a rear disc brake while the top trim features EFI (fuel injection) with both front and rear disc brakes. A front disc brake is offered as standard across all the variants.
The motorcycle comes powered by a 159.7cc single-cylinder air with oil-cooled engine that produces 16.8 PS (in the FI) and 16.5 PS (in the Carb trim) of power at 8000 RPM and 14.8 Nm of torque at 6500 RPM. The powertrain comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox. 0-60 km/hr comes up in 4.73 seconds in the Carb variant while the EFI variant takes 4.8 seconds. The vehicle uses standard telescopic forks up front and a monoshock (first for Apache 160) at the rear. Braking is via 270 mm petal disc at the front and a drum brake for the rear (disc is optional). The Apache 160 4V comes shod with 17-inch 6-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in 90 section tyre up front and a 130 section rubber at the rear (the carb with drum brake trim gets 110-section tyre for the rear wheel).
Tipping the scales at 143 kgs (with rear drum brake), 145 kgs (with rear disc) and 147 kgs (EFI variant), the motorcycle has a seat height of 800 mm and ground clearance of 180 mm. The 2018 Apache 160 4V is available in a choice of 3 colours – Racing Red, Metallic Blue (dual-tone) and Knight Black.
