The third-gen Hyundai i30 has been captured near Chennai, Tamil Nadu without any camouflage.
Unveiled in September 2016, the Hyundai i30 is a family hatchback from the Korean manufacturer which boasts of a dynamic design, luxurious cabin and an expansive list of features. The third-gen model has been spotted testing on Indian soil for the first time and that too, in a completely undisguised state. Even though the car is aimed at the masses in other markets, it would sit above the Hyundai Elite i20 in the Indian scenario.
Considering our market’s norms and consumer trends, it would be safe to assume that this model won’t be launched in India anytime soon. The Hyundai i30 spied near Chennai is a five-door model with a cascading grill, Verna-inspired fascia, split-spoke alloy wheels and a neat rear end reminiscent of the Elite i20. With length and width of 4340 mm and 1795 mm respectively, the premium hatchback is longer and wider than even the Hyundai Creta!
On the inside, the car comes with a well-appointed cabin with a black and silver theme. The feature list comprises of an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, multi-function steering wheel and a ton of safety equipment including 7 airbags, ESC, Vehicle Stability Management and blind spot monitoring as well. With boot space rated at 395-litres, the hatchback is sufficiently accomodating. In global markets, Hyundai i30 draws power from a range of petrol and diesel engines with displacement varying from 1.6 to 2.0-litre.
If launched in India, the i30 would command a much higher price tag than the Elite i20, which is already on the pricier side of things to begin with. This, along with the squat planted stance and somewhat drab exteriors, won’t make it click with Indian buyers.
