BMW has launched the new 6-Series GT in India, priced at Rs. 58.90 lakhs.
BMW revealed the new 6-Series GT last year, which replaces the previous generation 5-Series GT. The GT versions are basically the practicality oriented Bimmers based on their sedan counterparts just like the 3-Series GT which is quite a volume spinner model for BMW India. Similarly, the new 5-Series now gets an elder sibling, which is this, the new 6-Series GT (630i) that has been launched in India, priced at Rs. 58.90 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The German carmaker is targeting the 6-Series GT directly against the Mercedes E-Class LWB. Since the new E-Class entered the market, it has shattered the segment because of its USP, the extra legroom. Also, since the E is a CKD unit, the price is relatively aggressive. BMW is all set to make a dent in its market share by introducing the most spacious car of its segment.
Yes, the new BMW 6-Series GT measures 5091 mm in length, 1902 mm in width and 1538 mm in height, which makes it the biggest car in its segment. It is substantially bigger than the 5-Series as well, making it much roomier inside along with a bigger boot space. It will be locally assembled in India and will share the 2.0-litre petrol, 2.0-litre diesel and 3.0-litre diesel engine options with the BMW 5-Series. For now, there is only a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol motor on offer. Mated to an 8-speed Steptronic automatic gearbox, the powertrain outputs 258 HP of power and 400 Nm of torque.
