Royal Enfield putting enormous focus on quality ahead of the 650cc twins launch in April this year.
After the glitch in the quality of the Himalayan, Royal Enfield is twice as cautious as it is readying the new 650cc twins – the Continental GT 650 and the Interceptor 650. Unveiled at the 2017 EICMA Motor Show in Milan, the bikes are slated for a launch around April this year in the international markets and are likely to be launched in India later this year.
The Himalayan was withdrawn from the Indian market in April last year owing to the engine not being BS4 compliant and mainly due to the overall quality issues of the motorcycle. The latter was also the reason why the Himalayan went on sale quite late in Europe. However, the BS4 and FI version of the Himalayan is on sale in India now, after all the quality issues have been addressed. The automaker realises what’s at stake with the 650cc twins and has gone the extra mile by bringing in improvements in the equipment used in the assembly line and the overall manufacturing process.
The company’s new factories have much better quality systems embedded and the officials at the company’s product strategy and industrial design confirm that they have vastly improved in the last 18 months. The Continental GT 650 and the Interceptor 650 have been developed at the company’s UK Technical Centre and this will also be the place where more models using the new 650cc powertrain will be developed in the future.
