UM’s low-cost cruiser bike has been spied in India, likely to be an Avenger rival.
Weeks back there were news that UM is developing a new 230cc engine which will be powering a new cruiser motorcycle. This has turned out to be true. The new low-cost cruiser bike has been spotted near UM’s Pantnagar factory in Udham Singh Nagar district, Uttarakhand. The motorcycle is likely to be called Renegade Duty 230 and could be unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo. The Renegade Duty 230 will go against the likes of the Bajaj Avenger 220 and Suzuki Intruder 150.
If sources are to be believed, the vehicle is likely to be powered by a 230cc single-cylinder motor which produces around 18 HP. The powertrain will come paired with a 5-speed gearbox. Unlike its rivals, UM’s new cruiser bike does not have a low stance. Riding posture is straight up, there is an almost flat handlebar, single pod instrument console with a digital display for the odometer and a classic round-shaped headlight. The test mule gets standard telescopic forks up front and twin shocks at the rear. Braking is via disc at the front wheel and drum unit at the rear.
The low-cost UM cruiser bike also gets fork-mounted LED lights which UM likes to call ‘360-degree LED light system’. The Renegade Sports S too has a similar kind of treatment. Prices for the new cruiser bike are likely to be around the Rs. 1.2 lakh mark (ex-showroom).
