The 2018 Honda CR-V has been showcased at the ongoing Auto Expo in Delhi, gets a diesel motor finally!
Honda has unveiled the 2018 CR-V for the Indian market at the ongoing Auto Expo in Delhi. The SUV is scheduled for a launch here this year and will rival the Hyundai Tucson and Volkswagen Tiguan. The new CR-V, Civic and Amaze are part of Honda’s plan to launch six new models by 2020.
In its fifth-generation avatar, the CR-V looks more modern and butch. Modern, thanks to the LED headlamps setup and the thick chrome grille that adorn the front fascia and not to forget the curvaceous LED tail-lights. Butch, thanks to the flared wheel arches, chiseled bonnet and the black cladding all around the body. Well, looks aren’t the only aspect that makes the CR-V interesting. There’s more than what meets the eye. To start off with, this SUV is now a 7-seater! Something that the CR-V nameplate couldn’t associate with so far. If the 7-seater part was a generous serving of delicious chocolate chips on your favorite vanilla ice cream then the fact that the CR-V now also gets a diesel motor, well, could be, say 3-4 tablespoons of chocolate sauce on that ice cream.
The diesel engine in question is a 1.6-litre unit churning out 160 HP of power and 350 Nm of torque. The powertrain will be heavily localised and will also find its place under the hood of the Civic sedan, in a slightly detuned state. Lack of a diesel engine haunted CR-V’s sales in India and that will not be the case anymore, after its launch in India.
The dashboard is nicely laid-out. There are soft-touch materials being used and overall the cabin fit and finish is something we have come to see from Honda. Layered dashboard with double stitching, multi-function steering wheel, all-digital instrument console, touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and electric parking brake are some of the features on offer.
