Production-spec Hero Xtreme 200S image surfaces on the internet ahead of its official launch in India.
It’s been two long years since the Hero Xtreme 200S made its debut at the 2016 Auto Expo. Recently, the domestic 2-wheeler manufacturer confirmed that it will target the premium motorcycle and scooter segment in the coming years. For upcoming performance products such as the Xtreme 200S and Xpulse, Hero MotoCorp also proposed the idea of a separate retail chain. Ahead of its expected launch at the upcoming 2018 Auto Expo, a leaked image of the production-spec Xtreme 200S is doing rounds on the internet.
The leaked image highlights various elements that have been carried over from the concept version to the production-ready motorcycle. In the leaked image, the motorcycle looks identical to the concept version with its sculpted tank, sharp tank shrouds and a sleek tail section. As we have seen in the Suzuki Gixxer twins, there is a large ‘Xtreme’ graphic running across the tank which looks attractive. Thankfully, the production-ready Xtreme 200S lacks the wacky orange treatment seen on the wheels, rear mudguard and seats of the concept version.
Powering the Hero Xtreme 200S is a 200cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine which puts out a modest 18.34 HP of power and 17.2 Nm of torque. Going by the output figures, we assume that this motorcycle would be biased towards rideability than outright performance. The carburetted motor comes mated to a 5-speed transmission. Also visible in the leaked picture is the suspension setup which comprises of telescopic forks up front and a monoshock unit at the rear. Braking is performed by disc brakes at either end but it remains to be seen whether Hero will offer ABS on the Xtreme 200S or not.
The motorcycle is slated to be launched at the 2018 Auto Expo in February next year. Expected to be priced around Rs. 90,000/- (ex-showroom), the Xtreme 200S will lock horns with the likes of the Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 and TVS Apache RTR 200. Meanwhile, Hero MotoCorp has added two new players to its bread-and-butter range, the 2018 Passion XPro 110 and Super Splendor iSmart 125, which will be made available from next month.
