Royal Enfield and Bajaj cumulatively contribute over 85 percent of sales to the top selling performance bikes in September 2017.
September is a month that sees a host of Indian festivities starting and the entire automobile industry is in anticipation of clocking good sales volumes. The 200-400cc bikes segment witnessed a marginal growth in sales when compared to the month of July.
The list you see here is no different from that of July’s (except for some changes here and there). The usual Royal Enfield dominance is evident. The brand accounted for over 50 percent of total sales. The Classic 350 continues to sell like hotcakes. Royal Enfield introduced the Gunmetal Grey (in the 350cc) and Stealth Black (in the 500cc) colours in the month of September 2017.
A total of 47,674 units of the Classic 350 were sold in September making it the number 1 player in this list. The second spot goes to the Bajaj Pulsar (which includes the 180, 200 NS and RS 200) which sold 26,594 units and following it is the Pulsar 220 which sold 10,476 units in September 2017. The Royal Enfield Bullet 350 slips to the fourth position selling 9505 units.
The Bajaj Avenger 220 moves to the fifth spot selling 5641 units followed by the Thunderbird 350 which managed to sell 4787 units. The Thunderbird 350 slips to the sixth position. Standing at the seventh and eighth positions are the Yamaha FZ25 and Bullet Electra which sold 4173 and 3598 units respectively in September 2017. The KTM 200 twins (Duke 200 and RC 200), the Bajaj Dominar and the KTM 390 twins (Duke 390 and RC 390) retain their ninth, tenth and eleventh spot selling 2985, 2250 and 943 units respectively.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan parks itself at the twelfth spot selling 674 units. The Himalayan went on sale from the month of September and has had a good start. The updated Himalayan gets a new BS4 compliant engine with fuel injection. The Mahindra Mojo sold 66 units in the month of September while the Kawasaki Ninja 300 and Z250 sold 32 and 6 units respectively.
The Hero Karizma ZMR has not managed to find any homes and the Honda CBR250R has been phased out from the Indian market due to it not being BS4 compliant.
