The 2018 Honda Dio has been caught doing test rounds near Tamil Nadu, India.
Honda has an immense presence in our country. In fact, India is the largest market in terms of volume for the Japanese giant. A new gearless scooter from the brand has been spied testing near Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu.
The highly camouflaged scooter still manages to give out some design cues. A casual glance at its dimensions and stance help us determine that it is a derivative of the 110cc Honda Dio. The unconventional headlight positioning on the front apron further solidifies the argument.
Honda Dio, in its current iteration, is powered by a familiar 110cc carburetted engine which pumps out 8 HP of power and 8.77 Nm of torque. Mated to a V-Matic transmission, the engine feels refined as well as punchy due to the scooter’s low kerb weight.
Rumours have it that Honda could use the Activa 125’s engine to compete with the Suzuki Access 125 more strongly. The air-cooled motor makes 8.6 BHP of power and 10.54 Nm of torque. Presence of alloy wheels and telescopic front forks on the test mule hint towards its premium positioning as most scooters in Honda’s lineup get a conventional trailing arm front suspension setup.
