Tata Motors is set to locally assemble the Land Rover Freelander2 at its Chikhli facility from November this year. The said facility was earlier utilised by Mercedes Benz to assemble the C and E-Class. The company is currently conducting maintenance work and installing machineries on behalf of Jaguar Land Rover to start the assembly. The Chikhli plant has a capacity to produce 3,500 units in a single shift. Local assembly of the Freelander2 will result in considerable price reduction bringing the price of the SUV down by close to 8 lakhs. The Freelander2 currently retails for Rs 33.55 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
