The top 20 bike sales in June 2017 chart sees 4 of the 7 motorcycles of Hero MotoCorp’s portfolio make it to the top 5.
Sales for the month of June 2017 see a slight downfall in almost every 2-wheeler manufacturer’s case as the entire nation was awaiting the biggest tax reform in India since Independence. The implementation of GST had people postponing their motorcycle or scooter purchases and the sales data for June clearly shows it.
Hero MotoCorp and Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India continue their dominance in the Indian 2-wheeler market. While the Honda Activa saw a dip in sales of nearly 10 percent, it still managed to outsell the Hero Splendor. The Honda Activa sold 2,34,767 units in June 2017 while its immediate rival the Hero Splendor sold 2,19,103 units.
The Hero HF Deluxe retains its third spot by selling 1,54,655 units while the Hero Glamour took the fourth spot selling 78,889 units in June 2017. The Hero Passion, Honda CB Shine and TVS XL Super slip one position and now stand fifth, sixth and seventh respectively. The Hero Passion, Honda CB Shine and TVS XL Super sold 76,605, 69,108 and 65,302 units respectively in the last month.
The TVS Jupiter also holds on to its eighth spot by selling 60,570 units and finally, the best selling Royal Enfield Classic 350 finds a spot for itself in the top 10. The Royal Enfield Classic 350 sold 42,149 units and stood at ninth position. The Hero Maestro takes the tenth spot away from Honda Dio (which slipped to the thirteenth position) by selling 38,822 units.
Bajaj’s entire Pulsar series (Pulsar 135, 150, 180, 220, NS 200 NS and RS 200) combined sold 37,503 units as against 50,009 units in May 2017. Following the Bajaj Pulsar is its closest rival, the TVS Apache series which sold 32,742 units in June 2017. The Apache series includes sales of the RTR 160, 180 and 200.
Standing at thirteenth position, the Honda Dio sold just 26,890 units. The Suzuki Access 125 sold 26,511 units in June 2017 and stood at fourteenth position. The Bajaj CT 100 among the entire top 20 vehicles saw the biggest downfall in sales. Its sales fell by almost 36 percent. The CT 100 sold 24,776 units in June 2017 as opposed to 38,947 units in May 2017.
Next comes the Honda Dream series and the Honda Livo that sold 23,126 and 22,598 units respectively in June 2017. The Bajaj Platina stood at the eighteenth spot by selling 20,689 units and is followed by the Hero Duet that sold 20,341 units. At the twentieth spot is the TVS Sport that sold 18,135 units in June 2017.
There were two launches in the month of June, one the Bajaj Pulsar NS 160 and two, the Honda Cliq. While we don’t have the sales data of the former (because it was launched on the last day of June), the latter sold 1149 units. Clearly premium motorcycles and scooters are the need of the hour right now and this shows in the top 20 chart too.
