Honda WR-V production increased from 3400 units a month to around 5000 units to meet demand and reduce current waiting period.
Indians love SUVs and this has time and again been proved right. Take any manufacturer who has brought in a well packaged SUV or a crossover, be it Maruti with its Vitara Brezza, Mahindra with its Scorpio and Bolero, Toyota with its Fortuner, Renault with its Duster and Ford with its EcoSport. All these SUVs or crossovers are in good demand and hence sell in good monthly volumes.
Honda joined this bandwagon in March earlier this year by launching a crossover, the WR-V (Honda already has the popular CR-V but it doesn’t sell in good numbers and does not have a diesel engine). Essentially a beefed up Jazz but Honda took care of the aesthetics and did what was necessary to differentiate the crossover from its hatchback sibling. Consistently selling 3000 plus units a month, Honda has received over 23,000 bookings and has delivered around 16,000 units till date. The WR-V still has a waiting period of 1-2 months.
Slightly over 3 months into the launch and if Honda has achieved this kind of booking and sales numbers, ask me and I’d tell you the carmaker has yet another winner in its portfolio (just like the City). My point is, it isn’t tough for a carmaker (other than Maruti) to have a winner of a product in their hands but to convince Indians that out there is some other brand that’s better than or equally better to a Maruti Suzuki car, is quite tough. Honda has clearly won on this front.
Honda currently produces 3400 units of the WR-V every month and will be taking the production to around 5000 units a month due to increase in demand for the crossover and by doing so, Honda will also reduce the waiting period on the crossover. Honda currently has a waiting period of 1-2 months on the WR-V. This increase in production will also help Honda prepare for the upcoming festive season.
The Honda WR-V comes powered by 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engines that produce 89 HP and 99 HP respectively. While the petrol engine comes paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox, the diesel engine comes paired to a 6-speed manual transmission.
Other features include LED DRLs, 16-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch DIGIPAD infotainment system with a host of connectivity options, an electric sunroof and an automatic climate control system.
