Hindustan Motors seems to be the most optimistic car company in India undoubtedly. The company is planning to revive the Ambassador with the launch of a new version next year. The new Ambassador will feature cosmetic as well as mechanical changes. The exterior will now feature retro design and better technology offering higher comfort and value for money. However the company won’t pull the curtains on the current Ambassador which it intends to sell to the taxi segment.
The new Ambassador will be ready by February 2011 for trial tests and is expected to undergo validation by May in order for commercial production to begin in July, 2011. The new car will be a sibling of the Ambassador but it will be a completely different vehicle. Apart from the retro exterior, the interiors will be revamped. It will be powered by BS IV-complaint and BS V-ready 1.5 litre and 2 litre diesel as well as petrol engines that are powerful and fuel efficient. Overseas technology firms are working on each aspect of the car to ensure the vehicle is on a par with contemporary vehicles on Indian roads in terms of built quality and reliability.
