The top selling performance bikes in May 2017 chart only has Royal Enfield and Bajaj bikes in the top 5. We pick only the 200cc-400cc category of motorcycles.
The 200cc-400cc segment in the 2-wheeler market is where most of the growth is coming from and we all are aware who dominates that space. It is said that over 90 percent of the motorcycles sold above 200cc engine displacement are Royal Enfield motorcycles. Look at the chart above and it is very much evident.
Now after looking at the list, some might even ask where the hell is the TVS Apache 200. TVS does not give a breakup of the sales figures of the Apache 160, Apache 180 and Apache 200 separately and since we were not provided with the Apache 200 sales numbers, we haven’t included the Apache in this list. However sales figure of all Apaches combined stand at 37,151 units in May 2017 (for the Apache fans).
The Royal Enfield Classic 350 remains the hot favourite in the 200cc-400cc category, selling a staggering 39,721 units in May and occupying the first spot while the Bajaj Pulsar 180, NS 200 and RS 200 combined sold 8796 units and clinched the second spot. The third spot is bagged by the Royal Enfield Bullet 350 selling 7865 units.
The Pulsar 220, in-spite of being in the market for over a decade, still hasn’t lost its charm and sells in good numbers. Bajaj sold 5095 units of the Pulsar 220 in May thereby the Pulsar 220 occupying the fourth spot. Next again comes two Royal Enfield motorcycles. The Thunderbird 350 and Bullet Electra sold 3876 units and 3799 units respectively last month.
The Bajaj Avenger 220 sits in the seventh spot selling 3496 units while the recently launched Yamaha FZ25 sold 2299 units and bagged the eighth spot. The Dukes and RCs (both 200 and 390) are present too in the top 10 selling list with a combined 3335 units sold. And next comes the Dominar 400 which sits in the eleventh spot selling just 882 units in May 2017 vs 3216 units in March 2017 and 3082 units in February 2017.
KTM’s new Duke 250 sold 540 units last month while Mahindra’s Mojo sold just 105 units. Kawasaki recently updated the Z250 and Ninja 300 with BS4 engines and they sold 5 and 28 units respectively. Hero discontinued the Karizma R for the Indian market but the Karizma ZMR, in-spite of being available, did not find any buyers in May.
Honda too has discontinued the CBR250R as well as the CBR150R for the time being, owing to those motorcycles not being able to meet BS4 emission norms and same goes with the Royal Enfield Himalayan. All of the above bikes sold 0 units last month.
