The Jeep Compass is one of the most anticipated SUVs to be launched in India in 2017.
Jeep is one of the most iconic automobile brands globally and it is a part of the FCA Group (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles). The Jeep brand was launched in the Indian market in 2016 and the company started off by offering its halo products – the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and Jeep Grand Cherokee here. Both the SUVs are imported to India and are offered in the premium SUV segment. The Jeep Compass is the fourth offering from Jeep which is a made in India product. Already, there is a fair amount of buzz for the Jeep Compass amongst the fans and media.
The FCA Group has a production facility in Ranjangaon, Pune. The Compass production will be a part of Make in India program. The Jeep Compass will be the first Jeep product to be manufactured locally in India. Not only that, the Ranjangaon plant is going to be the exclusive export hub for the right-hand-drive version of the Compass even for other countries.
Why has the Jeep Compass created so much anticipation and excitement in the automotive markets? Well, for starters, it looks really good and carries a premium as well as tough persona. What is impressive is the kind of features the SUV comes loaded with. You get a variety of equipment like Jeep Active Drive 4×4 system which gives the car the go-anywhere feel. This system comes with a brake lock differential that gets a Selec-terrain traction management system with different modes like – Auto, Snow, Sand and Mud. The approach and departure angles of 17-degrees and 32-degrees also enhance the off-road capabilities of the car.
The Jeep Compass is loaded with over 50+ safety & Security features including Electronic Roll Mitigation, Cornering Fog Lamps, All Season Tyres, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Start Assist, 6 airbags, 4-channel ABS with EBD, Panic Brake Assist, Hydraulic Booster Failure Compensation, all 4 disc brakes and electric parking brake.
Electronic Stability Control (ESC) helps improve the vehicle’s stability over bad surfaces or when it senses that the vehicle is losing grip/traction. Electric parking brake is another nifty feature which replaces the traditional hand brake and uses a button to activate or deactivate the parking brakes.
Another noteworthy feature on the Jeep Compass is dynamic steering torque which provides an improved driving feel. This system is integrated in the ESC and power steering systems. What does it do? It adjusts the action of the power steering to enhance driving safety. If the vehicle understeers or oversteers, or loses traction, it provides additional torque to the steering, thus helping the driver steer the vehicle properly.
To solve your in-vehicle entertainment needs, the Jeep Compass comes with a new-age Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system. This system combines a 7-inch touchscreen display which is mated to 6-speakers. The infotainment system comes with features like Integrated Voice Commands, Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This allows easy pairing of your phone to the vehicle and provides a seamless experience. Sound quality from the speakers is very crisp. The dual zone Auto AC controls of the Compass are also integrated in the same touchscreen.
The Jeep Compass is offered with 2 engines. The petrol engine is a 1.4-litre MultiAir unit producing 160 HP of power and 250 Nm of torque while the diesel engine is a 2.0-litre MultiJet II unit producing 170 HP of power and 350 Nm of torque. Transmission options on the Compass include either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic gearbox. The automatic transmission is a smooth shifting dual dry clutch unit. The petrol engine is offered with only an automatic gearbox.
