2017 Triumph Street Triple launched in India, offered in just one S variant.
Triumph has launched the 2017 Triumph Street Triple in India. While internationally the Triumph Street Triple is available in the ‘S’, ‘R’ and ‘RS’ variants, India only gets the ‘S’ variant for now with the RS set to join in later this year.
Introduced in 2007, Triumph has sold over 50,000 units of the Street Triple worldwide before the introduction of the third generation model. The British automaker had already started taking bookings for the 2017 Street Triple from May last month.
The 2017 Triumph Street Triple has retained the quirky looks of its predecessor. There is a new bodywork, sporty twin-seat design, black powder-coated main frame, sub-frame and swingarm. The dual full LED headlamp setup with LED DRLs and beefier forks and tyres make the motorcycle look apart and distinctive. Other features include ride-by-wire, programmable riding modes (5 in the case of ‘RS’), traction control, switchable ABS, and a full digital TFT instrument console.
The ‘S’ gets 2 riding modes while the ‘RS’ gets 5 – Rain, Road, Sport, Track and a customisable riding mode. Triumph has revised the chassis of the motorcycle that gets a brand new swingarm. The motorcycle is also 2 kgs lighter than before, tipping the scales at 166 kgs.
The 2017 Triumph Street Triple, unlike its predecessor, will be powered by a bigger 765cc liquid-cooled in-line 3-cylinder motor that churns out 111 HP and 73 Nm of torque in the S variant and 121 HP and 77 Nm of torque in the upcoming RS variant. Both these variant’s engines come paired to a 6-speed gearbox.
The engine gets a lighter, freer flowing exhaust, revised airbox, revised gearbox and a new slipper clutch. Suspension duties are carried by non-adjustable Showa 41 mm forks up front and a pre-load adjustable monoshock at the rear while the ‘RS’ trim features Ohlins monoshock suspension. The ‘S’ trim gets twin disc setup by Nissin for the front brake, the rear does with a single disc Brembo unit while the ‘RS’ trim gets Brembo-sourced 310 mm discs up front and a 220 mm disc at the rear.
Priced at Rs. 8.60 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) the Triumph Street Triple S goes against the likes of the MV Agusta Brutale 800, Ducati Monster 821 and Kawasaki Z900.
