As the first ever ‘Made in India’ Jeep Compass rolls out off the assembly line, production commences at the Ranjangaon facility.
The most awaited SUV from the Jeep’s stable, the Jeep Compass finally heads to production which sees India joining China, Brazil and Mexico as a manufacturing and export hub of the C-segment SUV. The Ranjangaon facility will be the sole export facility for right-hand-drive (RHD) markets across the globe.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) also rolled out the very first ‘Made in India’ Jeep Compass off the assembly line at the Ranjangaon facility with much fanfare. Senior government officials and top executives from FCA attended the roll-off ceremony. The plant celebration also marks the first right-hand-drive (RHD) production of the all-new Jeep Compass.
The establishment of manufacturing operations and start of production of the Jeep Compass is indeed an important milestone for the Jeep brand after considering its 280 million dollars investment in the Compass’s localisation. FCA will launch the Jeep Compass in August, while production will be in full swing in July and the vehicles are expected to reach dealerships across India by the third quarter of 2017.
The Jeep Compass will be powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces 170 HP and 350 Nm of torque and a 1.4-litre MultiAir petrol engine that produces 160 BHP and 250 Nm. Transmission options include 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual clutch automatic. The Compass also features Jeep Active Drive 4×4 system with brake lock differential.
FCA will be offering the Jeep Compass in over 50 trim configurations and value packages. By the end of 2017, Jeep’s portfolio will have three vehicles – the locally made Jeep Compass, the Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
