The Bajaj Adventurer has been trademarked in India and it is likely to compete with the Royal Enfield Himalayan.
Bajaj has its eyes set on the 350-500cc motorcycle segment where currently Royal Enfield is a major player with a huge market share. Bajaj launched the Dominar 400 last December and took the game straight to Royal Enfield’s Classic 350 and Bajaj was indeed successful in attracting Royal Enfield customers (at least to an extent).
Bajaj had made the Dominar 400’s platform with an intention to use it for different types of motorcycles, like an adventure tourer, cafe racer and scrambler. The company now seems to be gearing up to produce an adventure tourer based on the Dominar. There have been various players announcing their intentions to get into the adventure touring segment. TVS-BMW will bring in their BMW G310 GS while KTM will bring in the 390 Adventure. Bajaj too is likely to join the fray.
Bajaj has trademarked the ‘Adventurer’ moniker and it is certain that an adventure tourer is in the pipeline. The Adventurer will take design inspirations from the Dominar and mechanically be identical to the KTM 390 Adventure. It could follow the KTM’s 390 Adventure and will be launched probably in 2018 or 2019.
With this Adventurer, Bajaj has again eyed Royal Enfield, and this time it’s the Himalayan. Bajaj may use the same 373.3cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled DTS-i engine that does duty on the Dominar 400 but will tune the engine to match off-road necessities with gearbox calibrations. The engine could produce 35 HP and 35 Nm of torque and could be mated to a 6-speed transmission similar to the Dominar.
