TVS has discontinued the Phoenix 125 citing poor sales, won’t launch the BS4 version.
The Hosur based two-wheeler manufacturer has given almost all its products the BS4 update, except the TVS Phoenix 125. Since its launch in 2012, the Phoenix had been a poor seller in-spite of aggressive promotion. Prior to the Phoenix, TVS had launched the Flame 125 which too had to be discontinued due to poor sales.
By not giving the BS4 update, TVS has signaled the end for the Phoenix brand. TVS cites poor sales as the reason for the discontinuation. TVS will, however, continue to make the Phoenix 125 for export markets where there is considerable demand. The Phoenix boasted of a 124.8cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that made 11 HP and 10.80 Nm of torque. The motor came coupled to a 4-speed gearbox.
It is rumored that TVS will use the Victor nameplate with a new 125cc motorcycle, however, TVS is right now busy bringing in the Akula 310 to the Indian market and the former is unlikely to happen this year. The company sold 94 units of the Phoenix last month.
