The 2017 Kawasaki Ninja 650 has been launched in India with an aggressive price of Rs. 5.69 lakhs.
Unveiled just a few months back at the 2016 Intermot motorcycle show, the 2017 Kawasaki Ninja 650 has been launched in India, priced at Rs. 5.69 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Featuring a sharper styling which seems to be inspired from the Japanese automaker’s ZX series of bikes (the 10R mainly), the 2017 Ninja 650 gets a three-way adjustable windscreen visor with a 60 mm range between the lowest and highest settings. It also gets an X-shaped tail-light.
The 2017 Kawasaki Ninja 650 gets a H2 inspired new analogue-digital instrument cluster with a gearshift indicator and programmable shift light. While the front suspension remains the same, the rear monoshock isn’t offset and the brakes see an improvement with Nissin callipers and ABS being standard. The motorcycle also gets a slipper clutch and runs on 120 mm and 160 mm tyres at the front and rear respectively. It retains the underbelly exhaust for mass centralisation.
Powering the 2017 Kawasaki Ninja 650 is the same 649cc, parallel-twin cylinder engine that is liquid-cooled and gets revisions including dual throttle bodies. It loses 3 PS to belt out 69 PS but the new trellis frame, aluminium swingarm and lighter brakes and 5-spoke wheels has resulted in a weight reduction of 19 kgs, the new bike weighs in at 193 kgs. The lower weight has also improved mileage by 8%. The middle-weight tourer complies with BS4 emission norms.
The Kawasaki Ninja 650 will no longer be sold as the ER-6f as the Japanese automaker has dropped that naming completely (the ER-6n has been discontinued as well, replaced by the Z650). With a seat height of 790 mm, this full-faired, non-supersport Ninja will appeal to a wide range of riders. The motorbike is locally assembled in Akurdi (at Bajaj Auto’s plant) via the CKD route.
