Mahindra is testing a new SUV based on the TUV platform with a longer wheelbase than the TUV300.
Mahindra is testing yet another SUV based on the new TUV300 platform. The SUV is expected to be the big brother in the TUV lineup with a stretched wheelbase. The internals are expected to be carried forward from the the TUV300. Probably, the new SUV will replace the Xylo in the manufacturer’s line-up.
The manufacturer plans to take on the the Maruti Ertiga with the introduction of this model in the Indian market. Also, with the launch of the sub-4 metre Bolero, sales of the regular model have taken a hit because of the price difference and upgraded mechanicals as compared to the sub-4 metre model.
The spied model also sported a covered rear quarter glass which could well be an indication of the front facing seats in the third row. The model could go up against the Ertiga as the alternative and spacious companion with the practicality and go anywhere ability of an SUV.
There is no confirmation as to what the new model will be christened as. The most common name that comes to the mind is the TUV500 going with the family traditions. The test model was the base variant with no wheel caps. The new model, if it replaces the Bolero, has a huge void to fill because the Bolero has always enjoyed huge popularity among the rural masses.
