After the Tiguan, Volkswagen’s next introduction will be the hatchback Golf GTI for India.
Volkswagen has stated about its plans to launch the Golf GTI in India in the coming years. It is a premium hatchback from the German carmaker which slots itself above the Polo. In markets outside India, the Golf is on the company’s list of top selling vehicles and they will introduce it in India looking at the future scope for premium and expensive hatchbacks.
As compared to other hatchbacks offered in the Indian market, the Volkswagen Golf will be priced at a premium. Owing to which, the company finds it suitable to introduce the GTI trim. It has been built on Volkswagen’s new MQB architecture which has been implemented on the Tiguan as well. Notably, the upcoming model for India from Volkswagen is the Tiguan, which is an SUV and it will be priced around Rs. 30 lakhs.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI, under the hood, holds an EA 288 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine which is capable of generating 230 HP of power and comes mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. Being a premium expensive hatchback, the Golf GTI will have very few contenders to rival in the Indian market. Recently, the German automaker went one step further by launching the three-door Polo GTI.
