Volkswagen Teramont is the new SUV for the Chinese market, it is a full-size 7 seater SUV that looks butch.
Volkswagen has unveiled its latest SUV, Teramont for the Chinese market. Teramont continues the “understated yet classy” design theme of VW. The SUV’s design elements are shared with Volkswagen Atlas, which was launched on the same day as Teramont in United States of America. Minor styling tweaks (like grill design) differentiates the two vehicles from each other. However the notable difference is that the Teramont is made in China by the Shanghai-Volkswagen joint venture, while the Atlas is made in Tennessee, USA.
Teramont is a 7-seater SUV, that is positioned between the Tiguan L and Touareg. It is a massive SUV, being 5039 mm long, 1989 mm wide and 1773 mm tall. The crossover is built on the modular transverse matrix (MQB) platform with a wheelbase of 2980 mm. The car offers safety features like Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert, Lane Assist and Park Assist.
The SUV also features Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirrorlink. Furthermore, for the multimedia junkie, VW offers a Fender Premium Audio System having 12 speakers and a 480 watt amplifier. In addition to butch exterior styling, LED headlights, LED DRL’s and optional LED tail lights make up the exterior highlights.
Volkswagen Teramont is available with a 2.0-litre TFSI engine in two states of tune, one with 188.58 PS of power and 320 Nm of torque while the other developing 223.05 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque. For the enthusiast, Volkswagen is offering a 2.5-litre V6 engine belting out a magnificent 303.14 PS of power. All engines are mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission paired to a 4motion AWD system.
The premium SUV will take on the Toyota Highlander and Ford Edge in the Chinese market. The SUV’s price ranges from $44,000 to $66,000. There is no expectation whether Teramont will see the shores of India, but considering India’s craze for the 7-seat SUVs, VW should consider Teramont’s India debut in the next two years.
