Maruti Suzuki continues its dominance in the Indian car market by having 11 models in the top 20 selling list!
27,750 units of the Maruti Alto sold last month, that’s more sales of just one brand than most car manufacturers sell of all their car models combined! Indeed Maruti Suzuki is on a roll and managed to post record sales with the DZire, Swift and Wagon R completing the top four.
Sales of September 2016 also reveal the dominance of Maruti Suzuki in each and every segment it is present in. Highest selling small car in India – Maruti Alto; highest selling tall boy hatchback – Maruti Wagon R; highest selling hatchback in India – Maruti Swift; highest selling compact sedan in India – Maruti DZire; highest selling premium hatchback in India – Maruti Baleno (crossed 1 lakh unit sales); highest selling sedan in India – Maruti Ciaz; highest selling UV in India – Maruti Vitara Brezza; highest selling vans in India – Omni and Eeco.
Needless to say, the Celerio outsold the Tiago, the Baleno outsold the Elite i20, the Ciaz outsold the City, the Vitara Brezza outsold the Mahindra Bolero and not that anyone cares but the Omni still outsold the Eeco! Other highlights include the stellar performance of the Toyota Innova Crysta with 7300 units (best selling MPV, sorry Ertiga), the Hyundai i hatchbacks managing five digit numbers and the Kwid doing extremely well for Renault.
Honda, Mahindra and Tata Motors have just one car each in the top 20 selling cars list of September 2016 and while the Tiago has done well, the Power+ hasn’t helped the Bolero reclaim its title of the top selling UV. Honda’s only shining armour is the City and the Amaze might not take the lead anymore for the Japanese car maker as the launch of the diesel version of the Volkswagen Ameo is likely to eat into its sales.
