The Mercedes GLE 400 petrol variant has been launched in India, priced at Rs. 74.90 lakhs. This takes the Mercedes GLE engine line-up to four.
The NGT has ruined many automakers plans in India and Mercedes-Benz was one of them. With the ban on diesel vehicles with engine capacity of more than 2.0-litres, Mercedes-Benz was unable to sell even a single diesel model in NCR. Some of its cars were only available with a diesel engine which meant a further impact on sales. Mercedes vowed to equip all its cars with a petrol engine option and inline with the same, the Mercedes GLE 400 petrol has been launched in India.
The Mercedes GLE 400 is priced at Rs. 74.90 lakhs (ex-showroom, Pune) and comes to India via the CBU route. Sooner or later, it will be locally assembled at the automaker’s facility in Chakan, near Pune. The 3.0-litre V6 gasoline motor in the Mercedes GLE 400 4MATIC outputs 333 HP of power between 5250 – 6000 RPM and 480 Nm of torque between 1600 – 4000 RPM. This powerplant is paired to a 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic gearbox and the top speed is rated at 247 km/hr.
The Mercedes GLE 400 4MATIC has all the features of the GLE 350d with Dynamic Select offering the following five modes – Comfort, Sport, Slippery, Off-road and Individual. Standout features include an 8.0-inch infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, Harman Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system with 14 speakers, AIRMATIC suspension with Adaptive Dampening, six airbags, full LED headlamps, active parking assist with 360-degree camera, electric sunroof, memory front seats and logo projection from the outside rearview mirrors.
The GLE is now available with four engine options – GLE 250d and GLE 350d in diesel; GLE 400 and GLE 450 AMG Coupe in petrol. The GLE 400 is the seventh car to be launched by Mercedes India in 2016. This SUV competes with the BMW X5, Audi Q7 and Volvo XC60.
