Royal Enfield has big plans for 2016 as they are going to launch new and revised version of the Thunderbird and Classic motorcycles, giving the potential customers a variety of options to choose from.
Royal Enfield has been really successful and one of the oldest motorcycle brands in our country, framing the cruising culture. This brand offers a variety of models in India namely the Bullet, Classic, Thunderbird, Continental GT and the Himalayan. Royal Enfield plans on launching new and revised versions of the Thunderbird and Classic with around 25 changes.
Royal Enfield has been working on its popular cruisers lately. The new models are expected to get a more powerful headlamp and better clutch and brakes. The new models would be sold alongside the existing ones in order to increase the options for the potential customers. Reports say that Royal Enfield could bring out a bigger engined bike as well which would sport a 600-650cc engine.
The current Thunderbird and Classic models are offered in two variants, 350cc and 500cc. The 350cc motor produces 19.8 BHP of power and 28 Nm of torque and the 500cc unit churns an upward of 27.2 BHP with a peak torque of 41.3 Nm. Both the variants are coupled to a 5-speed transmission. The new models are expected to get a more powerful and refined engine.
Royal Enfield plans on spending Rs. 600 crores during the current fiscal year for product development. They plan on setting up two R&D centres and expansion of manufacturing capacities in India and the UK. The UK centre is expected to be operational by the second half of 2016-2017 while the Chennai one will be operational by 2017-2018. RE plans to produce about 6,75,000 units in FY 2016-2017. The company strengthened its retail footprint in India with the addition of 145 new dealerships. They now have over 500 stores.
