The Hero MotoCorp Centre of Innovation and Technology was inaugurated today in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The facility will become the company’s nerve-centre for the development of future scooters and motorcycles
Hero MotoCorp is one of the largest two-wheeler makers in the world with presence in numerous markets. Experts agree unanimously that Hero lacks a good research and development mechanism even though it had its chance with partners like Honda and Eric Buell Racing. Hero decided last year to work on this handicap and has today successfully inaugurated the Hero MotoCorp Centre of Innovation & Technology in Jaipur.
Built with an investment of Rs. 850 crores, the Centre of Innovation and Technology boasts of many state of the art facilities and design studios under its roof. Hero acquired more than 500 engineers from the world over to create a diverse pool of experts for development of its future products. The facility also has a 16 kms long test track with 45 kinds of road conditions to stimulate all types of terrain.
Hero MotoCorp emphasises on the idea of ‘Innovate In India’ and proclaims that the Centre of Innovation and Technology has been given Platinum rating by the Indian Green Building Council. The new research and development centre by the manufacturer is expected to generate many new direct and indirect jobs in the region. The centre has state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment for new product design, prototype manufacturing, testing and validation.
After its split with longtime partner Honda, Hero has developed some commuter products under its own ambit such as the Maestro Edge and Duet scooters. It hired ex-BMW Chief Engineer, Markus Braunsperger as its Chief Technology Officer who had previously headed BMW Motorrad’s research and development division. It also showcased the XF3R concept which was developed with inputs from Erik Buell Racing at the 2016 Auto Expo.
