The Tata Tiago, which was known as the Zica earlier, is going to be launched on 28th March. Tata dealerships have now started accepting bookings for this compact hatchback.
The Tata Kite, err Zica, err Tiago was showcased quite some time back and we even tested it during the end of 2015. Tata Motors is now gearing up to launch the hatchback on 28th March and bookings for the vehicle have already begun. The Tiago was initially called the Zica but the automaker then changed the name due to the Zika virus that spread in Brazil.
The Tata Tiago is offered with a choice of both petrol as well as diesel engines. The petrol engine is a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder unit that churns out 85 PS of power and 114 Nm of torque. The oil-burner is a 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder engine producing 70 PS of power and 140 Nm of torque. Both the engines are offered with a 5-speed manual transmission.
The Tiago comes across as a very fresh design from the house of Tata Motors and it has a very youthful appeal to it. The Humanity Line at the front lends a lot of character to the car. The rear also looks well-proportioned while the interiors are nicely crafted. The cabin feels well put together and there are a good number of storage spaces.
Tata Motors is also running another interesting campaign. People above the age of 18 can book the car at showrooms or online and they will be told to give an answer to this line, “I love TIAGO because…..”. Winners will be chosen within 1 month of the closure of the contest and the top 5 entries will be flown to Barcelona with a person of their choice to meet football legend Lionel Messi. The Tata Tiago is going to be a make or break product for the Indian automaker and a lot depends on the pricing and marketing of the product. It will be fighting it out with the Hyundai Grand i10, Chevrolet Beat and Maruti Celerio and we are expecting it to be priced between Rs. 4.5-6.95 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai).
