The hatchback was previously called as the Zica which was renamed to avoid any negative effect due to the Zika virus and it will now be called as the Tata Tiago.
Tata Motors unveiled the hatchback previously called as the Zica in a media event in December and was appreciated by most of the car critics for the new design and refined engine. However, the name had to be changed to avoid any negative effect due to the connection with the life threatening Zika virus.
The hatchback will now be called as the Tata Tiago and the name was selected by an innovative initiative where people around the world were asked to give their suggestions. The #Fantastico name hunt crowd-sourced the name by shortlisting three suggestions namely Tiago, Civet and Adore while the participants had to select one of them.
The winner of the name hunt was promised the hatchback now called Tiago if he/she lives in India and a cash price equal to the car’s amount was to be offered if the winner is not from India and Mr. Libi Thomas, the person who suggested the name is not from India and hence is entitled to a cash prize.
Tata Motors is now fulfilling all the legal formalities and the Tiago will be launched by March-end while it is expected to take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Hyundai Grand i10. The automaker will go through a lot of trouble as the car was already dispatched to dealerships prior to the situation.
