Ducati has launched the 959 Panigale at the India Bike Week in Goa. Bookings for the superbike have started with deliveries slated to begin from July.
In November last year, the Ducati 959 Panigale was unveiled at the 2015 EICMA show. The superbike replaces the highly popular 899 Panigale. Soon after, bookings for the 899 Panigale were stopped in India and the wait for the new motorcycle started. While the wait still continues, there’s a definitive date now. The Italian bikemaker has launched the bike at the ongoing India Bike Week in Goa.
The Ducati 959 Panigale can now be booked across all Ducati showrooms and deliveries will start in July. The motorcycle is priced at Rs. 14.04 lakhs (ex-showroom. Delhi) which is about a lakh more than the model it replaces. For the additional money, the customer gets a bigger engine which makes more power and is Euro 4 emissions compliant along with styling inspired by its big brother, the 1299 Panigale.
The 955cc V-Twin Superquadro engine on the Ducati Panigale 959 produces 157 BHP of power and 107 Nm of torque which is transmitted to the rear wheel via a 6-speed gearbox. Other mechanical upgrades include a new clutch with self-servo mechanism to make the clutch operation smoother and work as a slipper clutch too. The most ungainly part of the beautiful machine has to be the twin silencers.
While the 899 Panigale used to have an underbelly exhaust, the 959 Panigale gets a rather bad looking twin exhaust unit on the right side. The exhaust is said to be needed to pass the stringent emission norms. The Italian brand also announced that one more dealership will open soon to expand the company’s presence.
