Force Motors officially inaugurated the production facility at Singaperumalkoil near Chennai for producing and testing diesel engines for BMW in July last year.
Force Motors showcased the BMW engines that it locally produces at the 2016 Auto Expo. These engines include 4-cylinder diesel powerplants that produce 190 HP and 400 Nm of torque and 6-cylinder diesel units producing 258 HP and 560 Nm. The Indian manufacturer entered into a contract to produce engines locally for the German luxury carmaker in 2014 and officially inaugurated the facility at Singaperumalkoil near Chennai in July 2015.
This was the first time BMW outsourced the production of engines and considered Force Motors as the most capable manufacturer that can handle this responsibility and with this the Indian automaker became the first company to produce engines for two of the top luxury automakers namely Mercedes-Benz and BMW.
Force Motors is producing engines for Mercedes since 1997 and the experience will advantage BMW. The new facility was developed at an investment of Rs. 200 crores under supervision of the German automaker who also trained the 100 engineers that the facility employs to maintain the global standards.
The facility at Mahindra World City is capable of producing 20,000 engines every year which can also be increased up to 50,000 units and it also produces transmissions. Meanwhile the BMW facility in Chennai produces 14,000 units of cars which include the 1-Series, 3-Series, 5-Series and 7-Series along with the X series SUVs.
Force Motors has two more facilities other than the one at Singaperumalkoil of which one is at Pune that produces small commercial vehicles and tractors while the other one is at Pithampur in Madhya Pradesh producing SUVs, MUVs and other commercial vehicles. The manufacturer aims at increasing its revenue by taking such contractual projects.
