Tata Motors have showcased a fully customised version of the Safari Storme at the 2016 Auto Expo which is termed as the Tata Safari Storme Tuff that gets a long list of off-road accessories.
The Tata Safari has been an icon in the luxury SUV category through India’s long history. The first SUV to have been produced in India from the ground up, it was first launched back in 1998 with a 2.0 litre turbocharged diesel engine. The Safari kept going through significant upgrades through the decades which included power steering and fuel pump in 2003, a 3.0 litre DiCOR engine in 2005 until finally in 2012, it underwent a 360 degree upgrade and the world saw, for the first time, the new Safari Storme.
And now in 2016, Tata Motors have showcased the Safari Storme Tuff which looks tougher than anything out there. The Tata Safari Storme Tuff is powered by a 2.2 litre Varicor 400 diesel engine which produces 156 PS and 400 Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The roof sports an all-weather foldable tent and an LED bar along with the front and rear metal bumpers and front mounted winch which give us the impression that this car is meant to be a perfect match for an extreme lifestyle.
The grey paint job goes well with its character and the ground clearance has also been increased. There are new metal finished side steps and the tyres are meant for off-roading. The rear gets a tail-gate mounted spare wheel that completes the look of the Safari Storme. On the inside, the Tata Safari Storme Tuff gets water-resistant seat covers, heads-up display, navigation system, tyre pressure monitoring system and many more features. We expect Tata Motors to launch some of these accessories on the Safari Storme in the near future.
