Mahindra has initiated a recall of the TUV300 for an ECU software update to resolve issues related to the engine and gearbox.
In recent years, many manufacturers have issued voluntary recalls to rectify issues in their vehicles. Earlier perceived as a wrong sign, recalls are now instilling confidence in buyers that if there’s something wrong, it will be fixed. Mahindra has been very proactive when it comes to acknowledging issues in its vehicles and is equally quick in rectifying the same.
This time, it is the recently launched Mahindra TUV300 that has been recalled for an ECU software update. Some owners reported issues with the AMT gearbox and the engine which affected driving. This prompted Mahindra to do a detailed analysis of what is wrong and it has come up with a conclusion that no parts need to be changed and only a software update will solve the issue.
The TUV300 is the first vehicle in its segment to come with an AMT gearbox and is also the first Mahindra vehicle to be equipped with one. Thus, teething issues had to creep in sooner or later. The current issue with the gearbox leads to jerky shifts, slow gear changes and a long delay in the activation of creep function (upto 30 seconds delay).
The Mahindra TUV300 is powered by a new 1.5-litre mHawk diesel engine which produces 84 PS of power (81 PS on the AMT). New vehicles from the Indian manufacturer’s lineup have had a history of niggles in the initial batches. Earlier, the XUV500 faced multiple issues with owners having to go to the service centre multiple times to get the issues fixed.
What is impressive though is the way Mahindra handles things. As soon as a few owners report a similar issue, a team starts finding the cause of it. Once they find the cause, they initiate a recall and fix the issue on all the vehicles which are facing the same. The service centres handle the replacement or updates from thereon.
