Maruti Suzuki will unveil the Vitara Brezza, Concept Ignis and Concept Baleno RS at the 2016 Auto Expo which is scheduled to begin on 3rd February.
Maruti Suzuki has announced that the Vitara Brezza, Concept Ignis and Concept Baleno RS BoosterJet will be on display at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Vitara will be unveiled on 3rd February and the Concept Ignis on the next day. Other than these, the manufacturer will showcase new platforms and new engines at the 2016 Auto Expo. The company has always used the biennial event to launch new technologies such as the Celerio AMT which was launched at the last Auto Expo in 2014.
The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza will be launched after a few weeks of the Auto Expo and will mark the company’s entry into the fast growing compact SUV segment. The company has already put the teaser website up while dealers have started sending emails to prospective customers. The Vitara Brezza will borrow the 1.3-litre DDiS and 1.2-litre K-Series engines from the Swift which will be paired with a similar 5-speed manual transmission. The compact SUV is the first Maruti vehicle to be developed under the leadership of an Indian engineer, CV Raman. India is familiar with the name ‘Vitara’ as the automaker previously launched a premium SUV called the Grand Vitara.
Maruti Suzuki plans to use the Concept Ignis to enter the micro SUV segment created by the recent launch of the Mahindra KUV100. The compact urban vehicle which is expected to be launched in the festive season of 2016 has a very unconventional design and is expected to come with a range of first-in-class features. It will be sold in India through the automaker’s premium dealership chain NEXA and is expected to come with 95% localisation.
The newly launched Maruti Baleno has topped the sales chart in December which otherwise proves to be a very bad month for automotive sales. A more powerful Concept Baleno RS with a sporty design and a newly developed 1.0-litre BoosterJet direct-injection turbo engine will be showcased at the Auto Expo. This engine has been spied testing a number of times under the skin of the existing premium hatchback. Maruti Suzuki recently started exporting the Baleno with a 1.4-litre petrol engine to South Africa, the same motor also powers the Ertiga and Ciaz in the domestic market.
