The upcoming Jaguar XE which is scheduled to be launched at the 2016 Auto Expo has been spotted testing on Indian roads. The spotted model looks like the base trim.
The entry-level luxury car segment has always seen the highest sales figures in the Indian market due to their relatively affordable price tag. The reducing average age of the luxury car buyer has also helped the sales as more and more youngsters prefer to drive themselves. While the German trio and the Swedish manufacturer have an offering in this segment since a long time, the British automaker didn’t have one.
But, things will change post the 2016 Auto Expo. Jaguar is launching its much awaited entry-level sedan, the XE, in the Indian market. When launched, it will lock horns with the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3-Series, Audi A4 and Volvo S60. The rivals have been around since a long time and have been well accepted by customers. Planting the XE in the customers mind would thus prove to be a tedious task.
A month before the launch, the Jaguar XE has been spotted testing on Indian roads. The final testing could be to ensure that the car copes well with the Indian weather and road conditions and doesn’t leave future customers disappointed. Interestingly, the test car is the base trim which lacks projector headlamps and gets the simple looking 17-inch alloys. This hints at the company’s plan to launch a base variant right at the launch to ensure a low starting price which is bound to rope in more customers.
The engine options on the most affordable Jaguar will include a 2.0-litre diesel engine and a 2.0-litre petrol engine. While the diesel motor will produce 161 BHP of power, the petrol unit will make 197 BHP of power. With the reducing price difference between diesel and petrol prices, demand of petrol cars is on the rise and adding a petrol option from the start is a good decision. Jaguar dealers have started accepting booking with deliveries slated to begin from 20th February.
