Sales of newly launched products like the Renault Kwid and Maruti Baleno have been sky rocketing while old models continue to have an intense battle.
The year 2015 was a very interesting one for the Indian automobile industry. While we saw the existing hot-selling cars raking in even higher numbers, we also witnessed tons of new vehicles being launched across a range of segments. There were a lot of ups and downs in the market too. Let us have a look at the top 10 selling cars in India in December 2015. This list comprises only cars and SUVs have been omitted. As expected, the Maruti Alto continues to reign the market and this month it clocked sales of 22,589 units.
The second spot is also held by Maruti Suzuki with its hot-selling compact sedan, the Swift DZire which managed to sell 16,790 units. While the vehicle’s sales have been falling very significantly, it still continues to remain the second highest selling car in India. The third and fourth positions are also lapped up by Maruti with the Wagon R and Swift which have managed sales of 14,645 and 14,548 units respectively.
Hyundai has the fifth position secured with the Grand i10 that has clocked sales of 12,749 units which is much higher than the i20 (Elite + Active) that secured sales of 8629 units. On the other hand, the new Maruti Baleno is turning out to be quite a hit having sales of 10,572 units, overtaking the i20 by a considerable margin. Maruti has yet another product in this list which stands at eighth position and its the Celerio which has sold 8019 units.
The Renault Kwid has been generating a lot of interest from buyers in the entry-level segment. The car has been selling in good numbers and it has now entered the list of the top 10 sellers, beating its closest rival, the Hyundai Eon by a small margin. With more and more products being launched in the market, it is going to be even more interesting to see how each one of them fares.
