The Yamaha Enticer was an experiment for the company and despite the demand, the automaker has no plans of introducing a successor to the model.

Yamaha Enticer
Quintessential cruiser looks, abundant chrome & a peppy motor made the Enticer popular

Before there were the FZs and R15s in the Indian motorcycle market, Yamaha was known to offer a rather affordable cruiser called the ‘Enticer’ over a decade ago that came with all the chrome needed and the quintessential cruiser styling to make heads turn. Incidentally, it was also one of the smallest cruisers to go on sale in the country being powered by a 125cc engine. Fast forward to 2015 and the affordable cruiser is making a comeback but Yamaha has no plans of entering the market, or so it says.

In a recent statement, Yamaha India conveyed that while the Enticer was liked by the customers and there is a market for such products, the company won’t be introducing a successor to the model. Introducing a small capacity cruiser was an experiment conducted by the company as the Japanese automaker wanted to see what kind of bikes does India want. At present, the automaker’s priorities are with other products, so a small capacity cruiser isn’t in the offing anytime soon.

With Yamaha out of the race for good, Bajaj Auto now holds the complete monopoly to the entry-level cruiser segment with the recently launched Avenger Street 150. Other automakers do not have a small capacity cruiser in the making unless Hero MotoCorp pulls in a Splendor based derivative similar to the Splendor Pro Classic at the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo.

The Yamaha Enticer shared its 125cc motor with the YBR125 and was a gem of an offering with decent power output for the city and occasional highway duties (see the similarities between the Avenger 150 Street). Sold between 2002 and 2006, the automaker made limited changes to the cruiser while the most significant one was the Deluxe version that introduced a front disc brake and electric start and brought its pricing closer to the then newly launched rival Bajaj Avenger 180.
