The Pulsar 200 NS will get the fuel injected motor from the RS 200 with the same specifications along with mild cosmetic updates. Prices will see a marginal hike over the current model.
The Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 and AS 200 arrived earlier this year and were quick to find homes across the country. The overwhelming demand saw the automaker temporarily discontinue the 200 NS to make space on the production line for the newer models. However, Bajaj has no plans of discontinuing the 200 NS permanently and the street-fighter will reportedly be making a re-appearance soon in a fuel-injected avatar.
A recent report suggests that Bajaj Auto will be launching the Pulsar 200 NS FI early next year, bringing back the naked offering to the lineup. While we do not expect extensive styling changes, power will come from the improved 199.5cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with fuel injection from the RS 200, tuned to produce 24.5 PS at 9750 RPM and 18.6 Nm of torque at 8000 RPM. In comparison, the older 200 NS churned out 23.52 PS at 9500 RPM and 18.3 Nm of torque at 8000 RPM. The bike will come paired to the same 6-speed gearbox.
The new motor on the RS was appreciated for higher refinement and lower vibes much to our liking and should perform better given the lower weight of the NS. We would also like to see the automaker use this opportunity to introduce its single-channel ABS unit on the 200 NS FI, as optional of course. Cosmetically, a black and yellow paint scheme is said to be in the pipeline while the Pulsar badge will move up to the top of the fuel tank from the tank fin section.
The new Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS FI will be priced at a marginal premium over the AS 200 given the added tech, so expect prices to be north of the Rs. 1 lakh mark (on-road). Nevertheless, the difference will still be substantial between the AS 200, 200 NS and RS 200 in the Pulsar lineup, thereby offering something for everyone. We already know Bajaj is not participating in the 2016 Auto Expo, so a separate and surely grand event could be in the works that will also shed light upon the CS 400 and RS 400 that will soon join the Pulsar series.
