Indian automaker Maruti Suzuki is gearing up with its all-new compact SUV which will be called the Vitara Brezza and it will compete with the Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300.
We all know how the compact SUV segment is increasing on a very vast scale in India. Maruti Suzuki, the leading automaker in the country wouldn’t obviously want to be left behind and the company has been developing its own compact SUV since quite some time. The XA Alpha or the Vitara Brezza is a sub 4-metre compact SUV that will be fighting it out in this heavily competing segment. The vehicle is a front-wheel-drive SUV and it is based on a monocoque frame.
Just like other compact SUVs, the Maruti Vitara Brezza too looks like a hatchback on steroids. The front radiator grille is quite large and the front bumper incorporates circular fog lamps and rectangle turn indicators. The headlamps seem to have a regular design which doesn’t look much striking in pictures. The side profile again seems simple but the company’s designers have tried to give the car some SUVish elements too. The rear has a squarish design and we can also spot a sporty looking spoiler.
The interiors of the Vitara Brezza seem to have taken some inspiration from the Baleno with quite a few elements that bear familiarity. The centre console over here houses a regular infotainment system without a touchscreen so there might be a possibility that this is a mid variant. Looking at the current crop of new Maruti cars, the Vitara Brezza too will provide decent space to its passengers. The alloy wheels get an appealing design too and they come finished in a dark gunmetal colour.
On the mechanical front, it will continue to be powered by the same 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine sourced from Fiat. Unlike the Baleno, the Vitara Brezza will be offered in the 90 PS engine tune which offers better performance. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Neither an automatic gearbox nor an AWD system will be offered. The Maruti Vitara Brezza will make its public debut at the 2016 Auto Expo and it will compete with the Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300.
