The Tata Zica gets powerful three-cylinder petrol and diesel engines and is loaded on features competing against the Maruti Celerio, Hyundai i10 and the likes.
Bringing an end to all speculations, Tata Motors has officially unveiled the new Zica hatchback to the world. The model will go on sale in the country in January 2016 and is being promoted by the company’s new global brand ambassador Lionel Messi. Designed at Tata’s studio in Pune, Italy and the UK, the Zica is the eventual replacement to the Indica in the company’s lineup and boasts of younger and striking lines, not to forget the all-new engine options. Here is everything you need to know about the Indian auto giant’s newest offering.
The Tata Zica measures 3746 mm in length, 1647 mm in width and 1534 mm in height with the wheelbase measuring 2400 mm. The car comes with a ground clearance of 170 mm and has a fuel tank capacity of 35-litres. The company calls the new design as ‘expressive and exciting’ while the bold new grille and bulging headlamps grab the most attention on the exteriors. Inside the cabin, the dual-tone layout looks premium while the clutter-free dashboard allows the feeling of more space. The company says there are 22 utility spaces inside the cabin while the boot capacity stands at 242-litres. The car rides on 14-inch wheels.
In terms of features, the Tata Zica comes loaded with the ConnectNext Harman infotainment system with 8 speakers, Bluetooth, AUX and USB connectivity and smartphone based turn-by-turn investigation for Android OS (first in segment). Further, there are power windows with delay function, electrically adjustable ORVMs, tilt steering with mounted controls for phone and audio. You also get rear parcel tray, fabric seats and twin cabin lights. The instrument cluster comes with door open display, in-gear and gear shift indicator, low fuel indicator, driver seatbelt reminder, dual tripmeter, instant and average fuel consumption and DTE function.
Tata is also introducing the new Juke car-app on the Zica that utilises mobile hotspot to create a virtual network and a host of service for sharing songs, while different occupants can queue the song of their choice for enhanced comfort. Safety features include dual front airbags, ABS, EBD and Corner Stability Control as well as a Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS) unit. The car also comes with reverse camera with proximity warning, follow-me-home headlamps which are remote key operated.
Power on the Tata Zica comes from a 1.2-litre three-cylinder, all-aluminium Revotron petrol engine tuned to produce 85 PS at 6000 RPM and 114 Nm of torque at 3500 RPM. The engine comes with the Multi Drive option that is ECU controlled and allows the driver to choose between Eco and City modes. Diesel power comes from a newly developed 1.05-litre three-cylinder Revotorq oil burner that uses an aluminium head and a cast iron block that churns out 70 PS at 4000 RPM and 140 Nm of torque between 1800-3000 RPM. Both engines come paired to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. An AMT gearbox won’t be available at the time of launch but will be introduced at a later date.
