The 2016 Triumph Tiger Explorer range gets divided into six models and receives an upgraded engine offering more power and torque along with a host of electronic goodies.
Triumph Motorcycles has upgraded its very popular Tiger Explorer range for the model year 2016 which were revealed at the 2016 EICMA Motorcycle Show in Italy. With a host of mechanical and cosmetic changes for the new year, the 2016 Tiger Explorer range gets divided into six new models under two main variants – XR and XC, similar to the Tiger 800cc lineup. Also new are a host of electronic additions that further improve the touring and off-roading performance on the adventure bike.
On the outset, the 2016 Triumph Tiger Explorer gets divided into the XC range comprising of the XC, XCx and XCa that are inclined towards touring while the XR lineup inclusive of the XR, XRx and XRt are dedicated to off-roading. The styling is subtly revised across the lineup with reworked side panels, revised headlight cluster and fuel tank. The Tiger Explorer range looks sharper now, courtesy of the updates.
An array of new features come loaded on the 2016 Triumph Tiger Explorer with the most significant being the electrically adjustable windscreen, a first for the adventure bike segment along with heated grips and seats available. You also get cornering ABS, Hill Hold Control (HHC) and traction control. There are now five rider modes, four of which are pre-set while the fifth can be completely customised by the owner. The top 4 variants of the Tiger Explorer are equipped with the Triumph Semi Active Suspension (TSAS) that allows the rider to electronically adjust the front and rear suspension damping while it automatically adapts the rear shock preload setting depending on the surface.
The base XR and XC versions though come equipped with a WP suspension setting, missing out on the semi-active unit. In terms of power, the 2016 Triumph Tiger Explorer range uses the same 1215cc in-line three-cylinder, 12-valve engine now upgraded to be a Euro 4 compliant unit. The motorbike has received a new exhaust system with a larger catalytic converter and updated Ride-by-Wire software for improved power and torque. The specifications are yet to be revealed.
