The 2016 Indian Scout Sixty shares its underpinnings with the Scout but gets a smaller 999cc engine derived from the 1130 V-Twin motor and gets a lower asking price.
Pulling a surprise at the 2015 EICMA Show, Indian Motorcycles unveiled the 2016 Scout Sixty, the automaker’s new entry-level cruiser with a rather affordable price tag. As the name suggests, the new Scout Sixty is based on the Scout and is underpinned by the same chassis, suspension and brakes but gets a smaller 999cc engine instead of the 1130cc V-Twin motor. The new litre-class motor equates to almost 60 cubic inches and hence gets the suffix in the nameplate.
Power drops on the 2016 Indian Scout Sixty with the litre-class motor pushing out 78 BHP instead of 100 BHP seen on the Scout. Nevertheless, power is still on the higher side when compared to the Harley-Davidson Iron 883 and Forty-Eight, the models it competes with. However, the Scout Sixty makes do with a 5-speed gearbox for cost effectiveness as opposed to a 6-speed unit. Other mechanical bits include 298 mm discs at the front and rear while the kerb weight of 295 kgs makes it fairly heavier than the standard model.
The Scout turned out to be a profitable proposition for Indian Motorcycles which misses out on the overwhelming appearances of the Chief series and is comparatively easier to ride, making it more popular with the younger demographic in the US and worldwide. With the Scout Sixty, the automaker wants to further address the young customer base with a lower asking price, providing an easier access to the premium brand.
In terms of pricing, the 2016 Indian Scout Sixty is pegged at a starting price of $8999 (around Rs. 6 lakhs) in the US and will be heading to India as well next year. While the Scout cruiser is priced at Rs. 12 lakhs in the country, the Scout Sixty can be expected to be priced at around Rs. 10 lakhs (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi), it will come via the CBU route. Indian is offering an array of customisation options with 200 accessories to choose from.
