Honda CB Shine SP Launched, Priced From Rs. 59,900/-

The Honda CB Shine SP retains the 124.7cc engine from the standard Shine but gets comprehensively revised styling and slightly tweaked mechanicals.

After teasing the model as a mystery motorcycle at the RevFest earlier this year, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has officially revealed the 2016 CB Shine SP version in the country with prices starting at Rs. 59,900/- (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new Shine SP is the young and dynamic replacement to the ageing CB Shine and is expected to further boost sales of the 125cc model. The new version gets improved cosmetics, paints and a tweaked engine for improved power and economy.

Design – While the new Honda CB Shine SP may be underpinned by the same single down-tube frame, the model looks all-new with a comprehensively re-designed exterior that also manages to look premium over the outgoing version. The headlight cluster is similar to the one found on the new Livo and so is the exhaust muffler. The elongated single seat and contoured fuel tank are retained while the side panel gets a mild golden finish along with black plastic cladding. Adding to the overall package is the gloss black visor, grab rail and engine. The bike rides on 18-inch alloy wheels adding a smart touch.

In terms of dimensions, the Shine SP measures 2007 mm in length, 762 mm in width and 1085 mm in height while the wheelbase remains an identical 1266 mm. The ground clearance is now higher at 160 mm. The bike gets new clear lens turn indicators and reflectors mounted on either side of the front forks, making the model export ready. The CB Shine SP uses a digital-analog instrument cluster while the saree guard is a stylish unit, a trend Honda started with the new CB Unicorn 160.

Mechanicals – Power on the Honda CB Shine SP comes from the same 124.7cc 4-stroke, air-cooled SI engine that produces 10.57 PS of power at 7500 RPM and 10.3 Nm of torque at 5500 RPM, but is now paired to a 5-speed gearbox. Other mechanicals include telescopic front forks and twin shock absorbers at the rear while braking performance comes from a 240 mm disc at the front and a 130 mm drum brake at the rear. Honda’s Combi-Braking System (CBS) is being offered as standard on the top variant.

Fuel Efficiency – The new Honda Shine SP also is lighter by 1 kg on the CBS version (kerb weight 124 kgs) and comes with Honda Eco Technology (HET) for improved fuel efficiency, returning a claimed mileage of 65 km/l.

Honda is offering the new CB Shine SP in 5 colour options and sporty new graphics that further spruce up the package. With the Hero Glamour aggressively gaining on sales, the new Shine is a great way to keep Honda’s sales momentum going in the 125cc segment. While we expect Honda to simultaneously sell the old and new Shine models for a couple of months, the automaker will eventually discontinue the outgoing version, similar to the CB Unicorn 150. Apart from the Glamour, the new CB Shine SP rivals the TVS Phoenix, Yamaha Saluto, Suzuki Slingshot and the likes.
