The TVS-BMW G310R is completely engineered by BMW Motorrad while the manufacturing will be conducted at the TVS facility in India with all the manufacturing machinery imported from Germany.
Giving the motorcycle enthusiasts the perfect gift this Diwali, TVS-BMW has officially unveiled the G310R street-fighter or what we have been calling until today the K03 (codename). The smallest BMW (and largest TVS) to be produced in today’s times, the G310R is completely engineered by the German automaker and will be produced by the Indian two-wheeler giant in the country. The new roadster will be giving BMW access to newer countries globally and will help expand its market share.
On the outset, the TVS-BMW G310R looks every bit like a BMW should and is heavily inspired from the bigger models in the automaker’s lineup. The styling is sharp with the front fascia taking cues from the R1200R for the headlight cluster and small shroud, whereas the side profile can be linked to the S1000R with the angular side panels. The hunched and beefy looking fuel tank looks every bit muscular and adds to the good looks of the motorcycle. Further, the tail section looked narrowed with the single step-up seat and an elongated tail tidy. The side mounted exhaust gets brushed silver finish for added flair.
Coming to the heart of the matter, the TVS-BMW G310R is powered by a 313cc, single-cylinder, 4-valve liquid-cooled DOHC engine with fuel injection that is tuned to produce a whopping 34 BHP of power at 9500 RPM and 28 Nm of torque at 7500 RPM, paired to a 6-speed gearbox. BMW does say a lot of technologies from their flagship bikes have trickled into the G310R which is certainly most welcome. The dry weight of the G310R is pegged at 158.5 kgs. Keeping costs in check, the G310R uses a tubular steel frame but gets a long swingarm made of aluminium for better stability and handling.
Suspension duties are performed by 41 mm inverted forks at the front with 140 mm of travel while the rear gets a monoshock unit with 131 mm of travel. The wheelbase stands at 1374 mm, marginally longer than the KTM Duke 390, while the seat height is a decently low 785 mm and can be increased or decreased to 815 mm or 760 mm respectively. Braking performance comes from a 300 mm single disc brake with radially bolted 4-piston fixed caliper at the front and a 240 mm disc with 2-piston floating caliper at the rear. ABS is offered as standard on the roadster while the bike rides on 110/70/17 front and 150/60/17 rear tyres.
The BMW G310R features a 11-litre fuel tank and returns a claimed mileage of 36.05 km/l. The engine has a compression ratio of 10.6:1 (makes the engine compatible with lower octane fuel) while the top speed is claimed to be 144 km/hr. Also on offer with the TVS-BMW G310R are a bunch of accessories including 12V charging socket, heated grips, LED indicators, luggage boxes and a whole lot more. The automaker is offering the G310R roadster in two paint schemes including a black and white with highlights of silver, whereas there is also a metallic blue and grey and pearl white shade available at an extra cost. BMW further confirmed that the G310R will form the basis for a new family of motorcycles which include half faired and adventure derivatives.
