In the wake of rising vehicular safety concerns, Maruti Suzuki will now offer optional safety packs on all variants of the Celerio.

Maruti Celerio Diesel Test Drive Review
The Celerio will now get LXi (O), VXi (O), LDi (O) and VDi (O) trims with the safety pack

Just last week we reported that Maruti Suzuki is contemplating offering safety features on all variants of all their vehicles. A recent scoop suggests that the Indian automaker has finally decided to make available optional safety packs on every variant of the Celerio. Hence, the hatchback that features in the list of the top 10 selling cars every month will now get new variants like LXi (O), VXi (O), LDi (O) and VDi (O).

This is a great move by Maruti Suzuki. By offering optional safety packs for all variants, the company is giving buyers the choice to opt for lower variants with safety features if the top level trims do not fit into their budgets. Earlier, buyers were forced to buy top variants if they wanted dual front airbags and ABS. Also, the ZXi (O) option is currently available only with the manual transmission variant, but now Maruti will offer the trim with the AMT gearbox too.

Apart from these new variants, there won’t be any more changes to the Celerio and it will have the same cosmetics and mechanics. The hatchback is powered by a 1.0-litre K-Series petrol engine churning out 67 HP of power and 90 Nm of torque. The diesel engine is a 800cc unit producing 46 HP of power and 125 Nm of torque. The petrol and diesel variants have a fuel efficiency of 23.1 km/l and 27.62 km/l respectively.

Competition in the four-wheeler market is increasing and lots of vehicles now come with safety features as standard. The government has also woken up to the fact that it is duly necessary to make safety features compulsory. Buyers have also started realising the importance of airbags and ABS and hence they prefer cars that come with such features. Maruti is trying to obtain a safety conscious image by providing safety tech on all their cars in the near future.
